Panel and Get Together at ITFS 2026

As every year, AG Animationsfilm will once again be present at ITFS 2026 with a panel discussion (May 6, 3:00–5:00 p.m.) followed by a Get Together (May 6, 5:00–7:00 p.m.).

In our panel, “Shaping the Future – Which Skills Will Still Be Needed in Animation?”, panelists Christian Kaufmann, Ralf Kukula, Maurice van Brast, and Jan Adamczyk, together with moderator Michael Bohnenstingl, will explore which foundations and educational pathways in animation remain relevant today—particularly in light of current job market demands and the realities of freelance work.

The discussion will focus on topics such as innovation, the impact of AI and image-generating technologies, and the question of how closely education and professional practice in animation should still be connected today.

Following the panel, we warmly invite you to join our Get Together. We look forward to welcoming both familiar and new faces for conversation, exchange, and networking.

During the Get Together, we will also present this year’s honorary membership of AG Animationsfilm to Isabel Herguera.

Behind the Frame

Behind the Frame – formerly AG Lunch – is a one-hour digital format in which creative experiences are shared and informative presentations are given on a wide range of topics related to animation. It serves as a professional development format where participants are encouraged to ask questions, exchange knowledge, and share practical tips and tricks with one another.

All professionals from the animation industry are invited to contribute and host an episode of the format. Exclusive to members, all sessions are recorded and made available through the Video Library. AG Lunch was launched in 2022 as an initiative that emerged directly from our membership.

Expert Panels

As a partner of various festivals and industry events, we regularly organize talks and panel discussions on current topics, for example at DOK Leipzig and FAB Berlin. Many of the discussions we host are also recorded and can be viewed afterwards in our Video Library.

Networking Events

Networking is at the heart of our work. We regularly organize gatherings for our members and for anyone interested in our activities. Regular networking events take place, for example, at ITFS and FMX in Stuttgart, the Annecy Festival, the Festival of Animation Berlin, DOK Leipzig, and the Dresden Film Festival.

Animation Summit

Since 2021, we have been bringing together funding bodies, policymakers, broadcasters, and animation professionals. Through creative formats, we draw on this diversity of perspectives to develop new approaches to current challenges and to work collectively toward strengthening the film industry and increasing the visibility of animation in Germany.

Overview of AG Animationsfilm Showcase Events

We organize our showcase events in collaboration with public-service broadcasters.

The goal is to highlight the diversity and excellence of regional animation professionals and to present a wide range of styles, formats, and stories, offering participants new perspectives and opportunities for exchange.

Over the years, we have organized showcase events together with MDR (2016), KiKA (2017), and WDR (2018). A planned showcase with NDR in 2020 had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

On January 30, 2024, a showcase event took place in cooperation with ZDF in Mainz. More than 130 participants from ZDF and the animation industry attended to connect, exchange ideas, and build new relationships.

The brochure for the ZDF showcase event, including all featured films, can be found here.
